Glenn Maloney has been a psychotherapist in Duluth, Minnesota, since 2016. Early in his career, he was told by a supervisor and an instructor to "be careful with humor in session," but found little current guidance on how to do that. This led to Glenn's interest in and exploration of the roles of humor in the psychotherapy session and profession. Glenn's research flourished during the pandemic, and culminated in the writing of a book "Finding the Humor in Psychotherapy: A Primer on the Clinical Art of Joking with Your Clients." Over the past several years, Glenn has been training clinicians and other human services professionals on the art of using humor in session ethically, safely, with purpose, and as an intervention. Glenn indicates that humor in session is part of the work, not adjunctive to the work. Glenn lives in Duluth with his partner, teenager, and two canines. He enjoys hiking, running, camping, generally being outside, working with wood, and listening to hip hop.
