Restoring the Wisdom of the Nervous System through Brainspotting, Attachment and Trauma Healing

CE Hours 1.25

About this course

In this course there will be an exploration and demonstration of trauma healing through Brainspotting and attachment theory. Because traumatic memories are stored in the subcortical system, traditional psychotherapy cannot access brain-body healing and nervous system release. As a newer modality, Brainspotting is sometimes misunderstood and this discussion will bring light to its somatic healing potential. There will also be an opportunity to understand how Brainspotting provides attachment repair through dual attunement--both neurobiological and relational. A hallmark of trauma is helplessness, and Brainspotting often restores empowerment, hope and agency.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will describe the typical sequence of Brainspotting.
  • Attendees will distinguish between relational and neurobiological attunement.
  • Identify how Brainspotting can lead to greater awareness of attachment styles.
  • Attendees will name three main attachment styles.
