Reconceptualizing Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Through a Trauma Disorder Lens

About this course

This workshop is designed to assist participants with evaluating and challenging current assumptions about borderline personality disorder (BPD), and explore BPD symptoms and traits from a trauma disorder perspective. This workshop will cover the neurological, biological, psychological, and social effects of trauma, overlapping features of trauma responses and BPD symptoms, and implications for diagnosis and intervention. The goal of this workshop is to provide clinician with education and diagnostic skills that will enhance trauma-informed treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe physiological changes in brain structure in individuals with BPD.
  • Recognize behavioral, emotional, and cognitive experiences and patterns common in individuals with BPD as trauma responses.
  • Identify specific components of trauma-informed care in residential treatment.
  • Describe strategies and organizational changes necessary to create a trauma-informed environment and culture.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Tiffany Dzioba, PsyD, LMFT

    Dr. Dzioba is the Chief Clinical Officer for Montare Behavioral Health. She has spent the last decade in clinical leadership roles for behavioral healthcare settings, creating, developing, and improving clinical treatment programs in inpatient, residential, and outpatient levels of care. Dr. Dzioba has created an evidence-based clinical curriculum for mental health and addiction treatment programs and developed a spiritually integrated clinical supervision model (SIS Model). She has a specialty in trauma treatment and has assisted many organizations in trauma-informed transformations.
