Bill Scott is considered one of the pioneers in the field of neurofeedback beginning his career in the 1990s when the field was still very young. He is a Board Certified Neurotherapist and Instructor, has been featured as an EEG Biofeedback Expert on CBS’s The Doctors and Discovery Science, lectured at the American Psychiatric Association five times, and presented research at the American Association for the Advancement of Science as Principal Investigator of a UCLA study.
The aforementioned UCLA study is one of the largest randomized controlled trials in the field of EEG Biofeedback, and was conducted during his appointment as a UCLA Staff Research Associate V. In 2005 the results of the study were published in The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
In 1993, Bill also worked as Principal Investigator and first author of an addiction research project with another well-known pioneer in the field, Dr. Eugene Peniston, where they yielded an unprecedented 79% success rate with Native American alcoholics. The Psychiatric Times published a feature article interviewing Bill about this landmark study. The Scott-Peniston Protocols are still referred to by the names of the original scientists (see above timeline for the complete evolution of these protocols).
Considered a foremost authority on alpha-theta (an invaluable protocol for PTSD, phobias & fears, anxiety, peak performance, etc.), Bill was asked to teach and consult with Dr. John Gruzelier and his team in preparation of their study designed to improve the musical acumen of students at the Royal Conservatoire in London. The results of this research project have since been incorporated in the school’s mandatory curriculum. Bill has also contributed a chapter on alpha-theta in Jim Robbins’ book, A Symphony in the Brain. Athletes from around the world, including Olympians and World Cup Champions, continue to consult with and follow Bill’s alpha-theta protocols for peak performance.
He has also been published in the January 2000 issue of Clinical Electroencephalography (EEG), an official journal of the EEG and Clinical Neuroscience Society (ECNS), and the September 2011 Journal of Neurotherapy on developments in EEG analysis, protocol selection and feedback delivery.
Bill Scott has taught more than 3,000 neurofeedback practitioners around the globe since 1995. Classes have been taught on behalf of EEG Spectrum, BrainMaster, Stens, Lexior, Thought Technology and BrainPaint®. Bill continues his research and innovative developments in the field of EEG Biofeedback as CEO of BrainPaint®.
